Pet-stacular Summer Treats
Keep your dogs and cats ultra happy with delicious summer treats!
There are lots of recipes for summer treats for pets but trust us, you don’t really need one to please your furbabies. Just keep in mind their favorite food (aside from dog and cat food, if they’re fed dry) and get creative!
We’ve listed impressive ingredients and snacks you can get for them! Make sure to consult your veterinarian before trying out new ingredients. As always, avoid those that will trigger allergic reactions to your pets.
Meat and Liver
Dogs and cats love liver. Keep your liver treat simple yet summerific by freezing it! Blend it with plain yogurt, place in ice cube trays into the freezer overnight. By the next day, you’ll have frozen liver treats ready for your pets.
What’s your pet’s favorite? Chicken, beef, tuna – they all have a place for a meaty treat in their belly. You can also try ready to eat meat treats for them!
Peanut Butter and Yogurt
Another popular and well-loved pet treat ingredient is peanut butter. Although it’s become a go-to ingredient among pet lovers, one should check that it’s unsalted and unsweetened. Specifically avoid peanut butter with xylitol, as it can be toxic to pets.
Yogurt is another great ingredient to mix with other snacks. However, it should be noted that not all pets can take in yogurt, specifically, those who are lactose intolerant. Look for other alternatives such as stock and flour mixture for a saucy base, or just broth for frozen treats.
Last but not the least, use small amounts of fruits in making treats for your pets. Bananas are a favorite, but so are strawberries and other fruits. Most baked and even frozen treats make use of fruit. But another idea is to create a fruity trail mix for your pets. As always, avoid fruits that can be toxic to your pets like grapes, cherries, apricots and more.
